The Anti-Boring Toolkit was originally designed for students from middle school to university, but guess what? Elementary educators and grad school coaches love it too! 🎓 The truth is — every student benefits by learning about how to exercise the muscle of their brain in more effective and anti-boring ways.
-
Absolutely! The tools were originally created to support students with learning differences like ADHD, dyslexia, dyscalculia, autism, and more. The magic of this approach to academic coaching is that we teach a flexible toolkit, not a rigid curriculum. Plus, we show you how to be agile in applying these tools across different learning contexts—whether you're working with neurotypical or neurodiverse learners.
-
Over the past 15+ years of training educators, we’ve spotted two big patterns: teachers tend to lecture too much, and academic life coaches often don’t teach enough. So what’s the solution? Teachers can benefit from adding some student-centered coaching techniques to their practice, while coaches can level up by learning how to teach specific skills.
Here’s the fun twist: the tools we share were originally created in the world of academic coaching. But our founder, Gretchen Wegner—who’s a former teacher—can’t help but wish she’d had these tools back when she was in the classroom. And guess what? Teachers who join our lab rave about how adopting a 'coach approach'—and sharing the science behind study skills and executive function strategies—makes their classroom teaching more effective and engaging.
That’s exactly why we created a training program that brings both worlds together: helping educators master the art of coaching and the mini-lecture, which is our signature method for sharing the Anti-Boring tools in the simplest, most effective way.
-
Along with academic coaches and classroom teachers, a myriad of other educators have been raving about how this toolkit helps them be more efficient and effective in their work with students.
Educational therapists, occupational therapists, learning specialists, special ed teachers, school counselors, college admissions counselors, university learning center staff, school psychologists, therapists, independent study teachers, tutors, and homeschool educators have all found value in these tools.
Whether you're supporting students in one-on-one settings, small groups, or large classrooms, the Anti-Boring Toolkit is packed with adaptable study skills and executive function strategies to meet diverse needs.🎒 -
The Anti-Boring Toolkit is divided into nine micro-credentials, each taking about 4–5 hours to complete.
To get certified, you’ll work through all the micro-credentials—reflecting on the content and practicing how to teach it (whether that’s with a real-life student, your partner, or even your goldfish 🐟).
Here’s the rest of the process:
Attend 3 community calls (or watch the recordings—we’ve got you covered).
Join 3 Mini-Lecture Practice sessions (or submit videos of yourself coaching).
Wrap it up with a final reflection paper.
Once you’ve completed these steps, you’ll submit your application for review, and voilà—certification unlocked! 🎉
We’ve designed this process to work for educators all over the world. While we recommend attending live calls when you can, certification can be completed entirely asynchronously, making it flexible and accessible for everyone.
-
First things first: there’s no requirement to get certified! Plenty of educators dive into the Toolkit without making it 'official.' But for those who love a little extra credibility (and some delightful perks!), becoming an Anti-Boring Certified Coach is a game-changer.
Here’s what certified coaches enjoy:
🎓 A certificate of completion to celebrate and show off your accomplishment.
📚 Access to the Anti-Boring Approach to Powerful Studying course, which you can share with up to 16 of your students.
📂 A library of ready-to-use resources to level up your work with students.
🎖️ An exclusive badge for your website to flaunt your expertise and training.
✨ A chance to be featured on our website and in our community, spotlighting your impact and success.
💬 And most popularly: a weekly online “hangout” with fellow certified coaches—a favorite perk that keeps our community buzzing with ideas, support, and laughter.
Note: These perks stick around as long as you’re an active member of our community—so keep your membership going to keep the goodies flowing! 🎉
-
Most educators become certified Anti-Boring Coaches within a year of joining the program—but if you’ve got the time and energy, you can knock out the requirements even faster! If you stay focused, you can get it done in three months.
But here’s the thing: spaced practice over time is the secret sauce to learning new skills. A lot of professional development programs hand you tools and then wave goodbye, expecting you to figure out the rest on your own.
At the Anti-Boring Learning Lab, we do things differently. We provide you with both the toolkit and the time to learn, practice, and grow.I know a year might sound like a long commitment, but here’s why it works: it takes time to learn the tools, practice teaching them, and get support as you refine your skills.
That’s why we’ve priced the program to be an incredible value for a full year. Even if you only show up for half the training calls, as long as you’re actively using the tools in your classroom or coaching sessions, you’ll still get the full benefit.
We’re here to make sure you don’t just learn these tools—you live them!
-
No worries! We totally get that life can make it tricky to join the community calls live. But guess what? Many of our members say that even watching the recordings is like a little burst of energy—rejuvenating, insightful, and transformative!
If you’ve got questions or concerns, feel free to email them ahead of time. We’ll dive into them during the call, and then we’ll time-stamp the magic moments, so you can easily find the part that speaks to you.
To get credit for attendance, simply watch the recordings in the portal and leave a thoughtful comment below. Voilà, you're in!And just to sweeten the deal, we offer a monthly unrecorded Boost Call at different times, giving extra love to those who can’t make the regular calls. We've got you covered!
-
Great! That’s totally possible. Gretchen has spoken for students, trained faculty/staff, and served as a consultant focusing on the Anti-Boring toolkit and transforming school/organizational culture at all levels from elementary through medical school!
Please reach out to us here and we will schedule a chat ASAP.

The main Anti-Boring Toolkit is designed to teach the skills and strategies you need to be an excellent academic coach, whether you are school based or in private practice.
However, some of our members do want to transition to a private practice, and prefer not to “reinvent the wheel” about how to do so efficiently, effectively, and lucratively!Once you join the lab, you will have the option to “add on” our Rock Your Biz program (which begins every six months, in January and August).
